Music Builds Bridges of Friendship in New Caledonia

MUSIC BUILDS BRIDGES OF FRIENDSHIP IN NEW CALEDONIA

Josiane Fichter, Daniel Bourget and Rachel Guidi

NOUMEA, New Caledonia Two New Caledonian members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Josiane Fichter and Rachel Guidi, are using their musical talents to serve their fellow Church members and others in the community.

Both are members of a community choir called 'Quetzal Chorale,' made up of Latter-day Saints and members of other faiths. Choir members are preparing to perform at a special concert to celebrate the 80th birthday of New Caledonian musical icon, Mr. Daniel Bourget. Mr. Bourget asked Quetzal Chorale to join his choir for this event. Members of the combined choir gather regularly for rehearsals at the Latter-day Saints' Riviere Salee and Magenta meetinghouses.

"Quetzal Chorale has provided a way for members of various faiths to be united by a common interest," says Rachel Guidi, founder and director of the choir. "As friendships are formed, mutual understanding and respect are growing."
